This weekend brings several shows to Athens and Atlanta that have us shaking in our Fryes with excitement. Wanna get to quiverin’ in your footwear of choice? Check out Friday’s offerings:
Portugal. The Man, Chief & Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band at 40 Watt, $12 advance
Tired after midterms? This’ll wake you up! Headliners Portugal. The Man has a diverse repertoire of experimental rock that’ll hit you with a hard-driving force and follow up with a crooning, semi-psychedelic ballad. We can personally attest to the fact that Portugal. The Man is excellent live and are worth it by themselves. And hey, when you preface that kind of excellence with Chief and Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, you’re sure to have a thoroughly thrilling evening!
Local Natives, The Ruby Suns & The Union Line at The Masquerade, $15 advance
If you’re not feeling the caffeinated rock at 40 Watt, head to Atlanta and dive into the dynamic percussion and catchy melodies that will have you discovering dance moves you didn’t even know you had! The entire lineup shares the ability to, very simply, make you happy. Whether its Local Natives’ 3-part harmonies and expressive chanting, the grooving, global synth-pop of The Ruby Suns or the more earthbound, driving rhythms of The Union Line, you’re going to have fun. Even the cynical, PBR-toting guy in the corner won’t be able to keep himself from smiling and bouncing along. We promise (but don’t guarantee it, ‘cause some people are sociopaths).
We featured The Ruby Suns earlier this year and have seen them on both sides of the Atlantic; take a look at our official statement and we’ll see you on Friday!
