Foals
Concert Recap: Foals Rocks The Masquerade
Ah, the rigors of covering shows in Athens and Atlanta. Venues, live music, dancing – oh my! On Tuesday night UGA Style was lucky enough to catch Foals at The Masquerade for a night that was allll the right kinds of rigorous.
UK quintet Foals released their sophomore album Total Life Forever via Sub Pop this June, and we fell in love the minute we heard the haunting Spanish Sahara and saw the glistening, sweaty majesty of Miami. There’s always the fear that a band won’t translate from the recording studio to a live show, but no worries here – Foals blew our minds! They inject energy into their music that is a thrilling departure from the low-fi, chillwave trends of late. Frontman Yannis Philippakis tapped into the good, old-fashioned rock star repertoire and jumped onto amps & ledges, ran through the crowd, played percussion on the exposed air ducts, and topped it all off with a bit of crowd surfing. The rest of the band was no less engaged, and they all came together to electrify the crowd. Needless to say, it was one of the best live acts we’ve seen in a while!
We can’t endorse these guys enough! Check out the rest of their 2010 tour dates here.
