Up next, the ladies from Community Service shall unveil a line of revamped vintage treasures that have been sewn & brought to life with the designers’ tender love & care. This first installment of fashion shows launches the birth of Athens Fashion, which hopes to offer a seasonal celebration of the fashion flair that makes our dear city of Athens sparkle. Keep your eyes out for the team’s website in the next couple of weeks, which will be a center for connoisseurs & creators of fashion alike.
And don’t forget to get your toes tapping at 283 after the affair for a dance party with DJ IMMUZICATION. Community is the newest store to hit the downtown Athens scene. Located in the rafters above Espresso Royale Cafe (on the corner of Jackson and Broad), Community opened its doors in the early days of September 2010.

The boutique features upscale women’s vintage fashions which ranges from apparel to accessories. Lately the world of vintage is synonymous with digging and sifting through a labyrinth of treasure hunt finds. Community takes a refreshing approach to vintage shopping through their efforts to merchandise pieces in a manner that embodies a sorted & up-scale boutique vibe. Chao to never ending racks of clothing!
As modern fashion finds its roots in transcendent style expressions of the past, Community is the perfect place to enhance your wardrobe. Community offers pre-worn contemporary clothing in addition to vintage, all of which is hand selected by the owner Sanni Baumgaertner, herself. In addition, you can find the unique line Community Service, nestled in the back corner of the retail space.
The line is comprised of updated and redesigned vintage pieces that are distinctly one of a kind. The vision of the line is brought to life from partners in crime, Sanni Baumgaertner and Karen Freed. When asked about her inspiration behind the line, Sanni explained that she is “inspired by the pieces she finds” and of course, the modern fashion circuit.
Community also collaborates with local designers, selling handcrafted jewelry, accessories and artwork. The store is loosely separated by styles: 80s, Boheme, 50’s Mad Men-esque pieces, and more, creating an organized aesthetic that is pleasing to the eyes of those special shoppers with an appreciation for impeccable style.
