New York nightlife, 1970s glamour, and disco are all heavy hitting inspirations on their own, but London’s Henry Holland channeled all three in his Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Holland is a relatively new designer but his attention grabbing slogans on t-shirts landed him recognition from the likes of Marc Jacobs and Christopher Kane. In addition to being one of London’s most hip fashion designers, he has collaborated with Levis and has also developed another line called H! by Henry Holland, sold at the English department store, Debenhams.
Holland’s Spring/Summer ’11 mixes vibrant metallics with softer pastels to create a balance between over the top and everyday wear. He also uses a large floral-like print which is often metallic dusted paired with his take on the classic school-girl skirt. The collection contains a few stand out elements: metallic stars, long fringe, and lamé. These elements are the means by which the 1970s disco feel is delivered. Another notable feature is Holland’s ability to draw on classic shapes. The collection features an A- Line dress, jumpers, and bell-bottoms all of which are characteristic of disco glamour. Henry Holland’s collection pushes the conventional boundaries of fashion by adding stunning color and novelty representing the essence of true London fashion.
