A Wave of Heads Did Turn

theCampusStyle.com_UGA_WaveofHeads2

If I have ever met a person with the perfect combination of sass, sincerity, and saccharine, it’s the lovely damsel pictured above. Virginia Reticker, a second year Health Promotions major from Atlanta, GA, never ceases to inspire a light in everyone that she encounters. Her coquette personality could make a lion buckle at the knees and her style sparks an interest in even the most oblivious passer-by.

Is That a Campus or a Runway?

Vince Camuto may not be a household name, but Nine West, the company he co-founded, certainly has that distinction. The designer has been a respected figure in the international fashion industry for the past 30 years and has designed for brands including Tory Burch and BCBG. His namesake line was established in 2005 and now markets iconic shoes, handbags, clothing and jewelry worldwide. Camuto’s continued goal for his line  is “creating a product that women really want…infusing great style, comfort and unparalleled value, for every stage of her life.”

While Vince Camuto products are usually only available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Dillards, Belk, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor and other specialty stores, UGA’s culturally hip campus has attracted the designer’s chic, big-city style. As of the Fall 2011 semester, student representatives for the Vince Camuto brand are present in Athens generating awareness, hosting trendy events and offering high-end giveaways to scholars on the go.

There’s No Place Like Home

TheCampusStyle.com_uga_dorothy_streetstyle

Unlike Dorothy from Kansas, this Dorothy’s home is Charlotte, North Carolina.  Instead of rocking red-ruby slippers, she’s rocking simple and classy nude pumps.  And instead of her trusty companion, Toto, under her arm, she’s wearing candy on her arm.  No, not the candy you eat, but the kind you wear!  Arm candy is one of Dorothy’s favorite ways to dress up any everyday outfit. Made in Chelsie

It’s as if she were sent to me by Madame Wintour herself. Right there, amidst the nike shorts and oversized novelty t shirts that consistently clutter my Intro to Fashion class, sat this angelic creature. Chelsie Rohlen, a 3rd year Media Arts major from Bloomington, Illinois, knows just when to pack on the sarcasm (which seems to work to my benefit as we sit in haze of mispronounced designer’s names and terrifying pant suits each Monday and Wednesday.)

Silent Rebel

Know what it feels to be a stalker? After racing through traffic on Broad St., hopping over a trash can, and taking a quick pitstop to coddle one of those darling guide dogs in training (a poodle puppy!) I am now quite aware of what it feels like to be a stalker. Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce  Mr. Richie. I’ve got to say, he was one tough cookie to get any information out of. All I was able to scramble together was that Richie was from Milwaukee and in town to visit his friend for the weekend. But his defiance to let me in on the trials and tribulations of his presumably rebellious life only made him that much more intriguing. (Not to mention half of his hair was dyed purple.) Read more >

the Future is Odd with these Wolves

Dear Readers: This article is about a controversial music group. Therefore, it is packed with content that may distract/offend/delight anyone who happens to look over your shoulder. It just might distract/offend/delight you as well. You’ve been warned.

No Ordinary Black Swan

TheCampusStyle.com_uga_emilye

This wasn’t any routine visit to Athen’s own T.J.Maxx, amongst all of the Will Smith and Polo Ralph Lauren rejects, I bumped into this jewel.  At first I simply muttered an “excuse me” and slipped by her in the size eight shoe section.  Now that I could view my specimen from a further distance, I decided it had to be done. A quick tap on the shoulder and my usual introductory speech commenced.  Her name was Emily Eller, she was a 4th year Mass Media major and History minor at the wonderful UG to the A, and she knew how to throw together one hell of an outfit. La Fille Qui Parle Espagnol

On the rare occasion that I actually woke up before 12 pm (I’m going to go with “hey, it’s summer!”) I decided to take a stroll downtown post my morning Ike & Jane lucky charms covered donut. A trickle of sweat was forming on the back of my neck as The Devil (a.k.a summer sun) made its entrance and there was an buzz in the air that could only be attributed by Athfest’s presence. Upon my hasty decision to recoil to the frosty air conditioning that my Hyundai promised to deliver, I just so happened to bump into this lovely lady (or should I say “señorita”?) Kristen Polsinelli, a Spanish major from Cumming, GA, braved the heat in a five-star pair of black lace biker shorts. But that’s not the only thing that caught my eye about this blonde bombshell…

In Full Bloom

Go on with your Slick Rick self, baby girl. Hailing from the dirty South – Korea, that is –  22-year-old Marketing student, Yeongmin Schin, is rounding out the semester with a bang (in boots!) She’s got flowers in her horizon, a stripy shoulder satchel, and some tunes that would send your iPod into a coma (check out Old Canes – we really dig Little Bird Courage.) Come on Mr. Frost, it’s summer’s turn to play.

A++

Have ya ever seen anything cuter?! Ms. Deanna (pronounced Dee-nahhh), a 25-year-old go-getter from Alpharetta, GA, beats the heat in a simple yet oh-so-delicious ensemble on a sizzlin’ Athenian afternoon. Where on earth could she possibly have scooped up those delectable specs?  None other than our very own downtown wonderland, Dynamite. Never fear, Adams Optics is here! (To customize those lenses to perfectly fit Ms. Deanna’s baby blues, that is.) Glasses, scarf, overalls, shoes, we love it all! Well done, Miss Thing, we give you a gold star for your valiant contribution to society.
