Spring Break has finally arrived! I’ve been counting down the days, eagerly anticipating sitting on the beach and completely forgetting about school. This much-needed break doesn’t just serve as time to relax and get away; it also marks the beginning of spring. Soon we will all be sun-kissed and ready to wear our spring clothes full time.

Is That a Campus or a Runway?

Vince Camuto may not be a household name, but Nine West, the company he co-founded, certainly has that distinction. The designer has been a respected figure in the international fashion industry for the past 30 years and has designed for brands including Tory Burch and BCBG. His namesake line was established in 2005 and now markets iconic shoes, handbags, clothing and jewelry worldwide. Camuto’s continued goal for his line  is “creating a product that women really want…infusing great style, comfort and unparalleled value, for every stage of her life.”

While Vince Camuto products are usually only available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Dillards, Belk, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor and other specialty stores, UGA’s culturally hip campus has attracted the designer’s chic, big-city style. As of the Fall 2011 semester, student representatives for the Vince Camuto brand are present in Athens generating awareness, hosting trendy events and offering high-end giveaways to scholars on the go.

Color Story

TheCampusStyle.com_ColorBlocking_UGA1

Remember when you were a little girl and your mom taught you how to match? She always said: like colors go together, no more than 2-3 colors in an outfit, and never pair black with brown. Well, all that’s about to change. Forget everything you learned because this fall it’s all about using lots of color— lots of different colors. (Image Source)

The big trend this fall is color blocking. Even though color blocking isn’t new to the fashion scene, this season it’s bigger than ever. This simple look will make you look like a fashion genius. Read more >

What’s Old Is New

TheCampusStyle.com_uga_agoraathens

What’s old is new–at least in Agora that is.  If you haven’t stumbled upon this cool girl’s antique shop yet, then you’re missing out!  At first glance this store may seem like nothing special; it’s entrance welcomes passersby with random clothes dangling on mannequins and old furniture displaced along the sidewalk. No Ordinary Black Swan

TheCampusStyle.com_uga_emilye

This wasn’t any routine visit to Athen’s own T.J.Maxx, amongst all of the Will Smith and Polo Ralph Lauren rejects, I bumped into this jewel.  At first I simply muttered an “excuse me” and slipped by her in the size eight shoe section.  Now that I could view my specimen from a further distance, I decided it had to be done. A quick tap on the shoulder and my usual introductory speech commenced.  Her name was Emily Eller, she was a 4th year Mass Media major and History minor at the wonderful UG to the A, and she knew how to throw together one hell of an outfit. Touch It. Buy It. Babe.

Though you probably haven’t worn spandex since you were on your middle school volleyball team, all that is about to change once you see how this designer uses spandex to her advantage.  Nico & J jewelry is a very fresh, fun and funky line.  The designer behind it all is Jocelyn Negron, 2008 University of Georgia graduate with a BFA in Digital Media and now currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.  She stops by Athens every once in awhile to deliver new products.

The Nico & J fluorescent necklaces will for sure get heads turning!  Not only are they bright, they were even designed with the intention of evoking a sense of touch.  So when people pass you by and beg to touch your necklace…just let them!

Head into Agora in downtown Athens on Clayton Street, for the newest Nico & J pieces!  Well, what are you waiting for? – GO!

La Fille Qui Parle Espagnol

On the rare occasion that I actually woke up before 12 pm (I’m going to go with “hey, it’s summer!”) I decided to take a stroll downtown post my morning Ike & Jane lucky charms covered donut. A trickle of sweat was forming on the back of my neck as The Devil (a.k.a summer sun) made its entrance and there was an buzz in the air that could only be attributed by Athfest’s presence. Upon my hasty decision to recoil to the frosty air conditioning that my Hyundai promised to deliver, I just so happened to bump into this lovely lady (or should I say “señorita”?) Kristen Polsinelli, a Spanish major from Cumming, GA, braved the heat in a five-star pair of black lace biker shorts. But that’s not the only thing that caught my eye about this blonde bombshell…
