Ever had a burning desire to design a piece of clothing? Want to get started in the fashion industry but don’t know how? Well, talented designers unite! Check out my new favorite site – Velvet Brigade! Founded by Jena Wang and Lindsay McConnon, Velvet Brigade is a contemporary women’s fashion brand with a revolutionary, grassroots approach to design and product selection. Aspiring fashion designers, illustrators and hobbyists submit design ideas, while the community comments on designs and votes for their favorites. Winning designs are put into production, and the designer’s name will be featured on the tag, as well as share the revenue with Velvet Brigade.
Have you ever walked by Bergdorf’s or Macy’s during Christmas and spent hours just staring at their beautiful windows? Well, I have. There’s something about those intricate stories told through a piece of glass that always pulls more than just your average window shopper in. This season, New Orleans is going to be the place to be for window-shopping, and you might be the one to design those windows.
Wedding Belles & The Stationer, a bridal and stationary store in New Orleans, Louisiana owned by Amy Casbarian and Jane Bensel, is holding a contest to find the next designer of their feminine and whimsical window displays! As a store that redesigns their windows every season, Amy and Jane are looking for a fresh new look that incorporates the community into the design process.
Interested? All artists, designers and students are welcome to submit a 100-word description of the design, along with a mood board or list of ideas on how the window displays can be translated into decorations throughout the store. All applications are due to netta@sparklebc.com or to be dropped off at the store by September 9th. The winner’s work will be installed on September 18th, and toasted to on the 22nd!
Here to bring you “all things good,” TheCampusStyle ladies have encountered another set of female entrepreneurs: best friends Emma Mahon and Jackie Graham. Hailing from the Boston area, this duo realized early on which career path they would trek down. Instead of going the traditional route after graduating from college, these Northerners decided they would combine their business and fashion savvy to bring you a clothing line geared for the oh-so chic, yet penny pinching, college ladies you all are.
Affordable and cute? Hot damn–no one can refuse a steal like that. We’re talking colorful pieces, perfect for spring, with impeccable details that make this line one-of-a-kind. Dresses, shorts, skirts and tops are all drenched in hues like sunshine and turquoise. Flirty necklines, fun embellishments and bright, exposed zippers (we love!) make each item pop and will definitely spark life into your dreary, winter wardrobe.
With warm weather on the horizon, we partnered with Emma Graham Designs to offer our readers a chance to snag one of these adorable pieces. Yes, we said it–you have the opportunity to WIN a dress from their recently launched collection. We know you trendy ladies have oodles of events approaching, so get ready for a guarantee that no one else will show up wearing the same dress as you.
If you don’t fare so well in this contest, fear not. Emma Graham caters to the college budget: host a trunk show on your campus and receive a discount (not to mention being the only girl who has the one-month-old line in your living room). Not your thing? Then surf over to their website or venture to one of the 50 boutiques nationwide to purchase your own snazzy outfit–and most pieces are under $200. So say good-bye to overpriced dresses that what’s-her-name has on too. Get your Emma Graham on now, and spend that left over cash money on something else.
