Kai Lin Art gallery in ATL presents…MONSTERS, opening July 16, 2010…

Gallery owner, Yu Kai, answered a couple of my questions on the exhibit:

What made you think of this theme for an exhibit? How did you get all these artists under this team? How was the search for it?

The theme of this exhibit stemmed from my love of MONSTERS and happy MONSTERS from my youth. I’ve known many illustrators that are local and wanted to create a show around all local illustrative artists. They are all friends of mine or friends of friends. The search was easy and fulfilling.

Who is your favorite artist in this exhibit, and why?

All of the artists offer such a unique outlook on their interpretations of monsters, it’s difficult to choose a favorite.

-There is this fascination with monsters (e.g. Lady GaGa’s “little monsters”) in today’s pop culture…what seems to be your fascination? What drew you to it?

My fascination with MONSTERS stems from a place in each of us that has fears and trepidations and how we overcome our childhood fears through facing our own monsters inside. What draws me to Monsters is the whimsy, the intrigue, the mystery surrounding the unknown.
